| 1. Why Jim didn't make profit with his Internet business - part 2 |
Two weeks ago we told you about Jim who didn't make profit with his Internet business because he used the wrong keywords. We gave you a list of popular keyword search engines that help you to find the right keywords for your web site.
This time we'd like to inform you about more unknown ways to find the right keywords for your site.
1. Google Sets
Google Sets is a tool that comes directly from the Google labs. It's not quite ready for prime time yet but for our needs it works very well.
Just go to the Google Sets page, enter some words, press the Small Set button and Google will tell you similar words that people searched for.
For instance, enter the three words Moon, Earth and Mars. When you press the Small Sets button, Google will tell you Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus, Pluto and Sun.
When you press the Large Set button, then you'll get even more results, for example "Extraterrestrial Life", "Hubble Telescope" and "Stars".
2. Search engine suggestions
When you search for a keyword in some major search engines, then you'll be often prompted to refine your search.
For example, go to AltaVista and search for "furniture". AltaVista will return the usual top 10 results, some sponsored sites - and - a list of keywords and key phrases that narrow your search. In this case, "bedroom furniture", "living room", "sofas", and more.
Try your favorite keywords and see if AltaVista can get up with some new ideas for you.
Other search engines have similar features, for instance Teoma and MSN Search.
3. 7Search
The pay per click search engine 7Search offers a nice keyword suggestion tool that tells you the number of searches for the keywords and the corresponding maximum bids.
4. Guidebeam
The site Guidebeam.com is a bit of a "sleeper" among search engine optimizers. It often presents you a large list of very good keyword suggestions.
If you try our example keyword "furniture", then you'll get no less than 110 keyword suggestions.
Actually, Guidebeam was developed to help non-technical users to formulate a more precise description of their information need. You can use it to improve your business.
Targeting the right keywords is very important if you want to get a positive return on investment (ROI) from your search engine optimization activities. If you need more information about how to turn web site visitors into a buyers read this article.
