Yahoo going to shut down AltaVista on July, 8th

"Earlier this year, we announced an ongoing effort to sharpen our focus and deliver experiences that enhance your daily lives. As part of that, today we’re shutting down a few products so we can continue to focus on creating beautiful products that are essential to you every day."

GoogleA heat map click study for Google’s Local Carousel results
"40 out of 83 or 48% of the total clicks were on carousel results. 12 out of 83 or 14.5% of the total click were on the map. [...]

One challenge with images is that Google is not letting you choose what picture to display on the front page. They choose it for you from the images that are uploaded. They want to see pictures of the place. I am not sure if they means they would rather that than pictures of the food (clearly for restaurants this would be a better option)."

Google testing company Google Plus photos in search results

"Google+ began testing rel=author-esque photos in the search results for companies on competitive queries. [...] There’s no guarantee this is going to permanently roll out, but with the success of rel=author, I’m betting it sticks."

BingBing: changes to deep links management

"Deep links are additional links in our search results that show up underneath the primary search result URL and that generally link to popular destinations on the website. [...] With the new changes to our Deep Links tool announced today, were are removing some redundant features while introducing additional functionality and flexibility."

Google's Matt Cutts: we don't plan wildcard support for the disavow tool

On Twitter, Google's Matt Cutts said that they do not plan to allow wildcard disavows like they do for the robots.txt protocol.

How to get an in-depth review of your website

Doing a regular audit of your web pages is important if you want to make sure that search engines can index all of your pages. The more pages your website has, the more likely it is that there are many errors that have to be corrected.

The website audit tool in SEOprofiler automatically checks your web pages once per week. Then you get a report that shows all the issues that should be corrected. By correcting these issues, you make sure that search engines can index all of your pages correctly. Here’s a screenshot of the overview page:
