Welcome to a new issue of the Search Engine Facts newsletter.
This week we're having a close look at keyword density and its role for your search engine rankings and we're introducing the latest version of Internet Business Promoter.
1. Facts of the week: How to write keyword-rich Web pages
As you probably know, link popularity is a very important factor if you want to have a high ranking on search engines. However, it's not the only factor that determines your ranking.
If link popularity was the biggest factor, then Web pages with a PageRank of 9 or 10 would be the number one match for whatever you search for. You'd search for "cars", and Google would return www.google.com as the #1 match because it has the highest PageRank.
Search engines don't work that way. Google claims that they utilize more than 100 factors when ranking Web pages, and link popularity is just one of them. Of course, the factor "link popularity" is surely more important than the keywords in your <IMG ALT> attributes.
One important factor that determines the search engine rankings of your Web pages is the factor "keyword density".
Simply speaking, search engines measure the number of keywords in a formula called "keyword density". Keyword density answers the question "How much of a text is keyword?".
Your keyword density must not be too high or too low. If it's too low, search engines won't think that your Web site is relevant for that keyword. If the keyword density is too high, then your Web page may be penalized for "keyword stuffing".
The location of your keywords is also very important. In general, search engines rank your Web page higher for keywords if they appear in the page title, in the link texts and near the beginning of the body text.
About keywords in link texts:

In addition, keywords in headline tags often count more than using a keyword in the normal body text. The right keyword density in the right places contributes to a high search engine ranking.
We've reported about keywords in <H1> tags before:

Building keyword-rich Web pages for the search engines is only one part. Don't forget that your Web pages must also provide strong copy that engages your Web site visitors. You must make sure that you target keywords and key phrases that Internet users really search for.
How to find relevant keywords:

To find the right keyword density for your own Web pages, you might want to download the HTML source of top ranked pages and analyze these Web pages. Of course, this is very tedious work and it takes a very long time.
For that reason, we've added a new tool to Internet Business Promoter (IBP). The new IBP version 1.5 offers an easy to use keyword density analyzer that thoroughly analyzes up to 14 parts of your Web site and compares them with higher ranked Web pages.
That way you can quickly find the perfect keyword density for your site for specific keyword or key phrase. This will help you to increase the search engine ranking of your Web pages.
Best of all, you can test-drive the new IBP version with the freeware Lite edition .
