Welcome to a new issue of the Search Engine Facts newsletter.

This week we're telling you how you can check if your Web site is listed on all popular search engines. We're also bringing you the latest search engine news.

1. Facts of the week: Checking which Web pages are indexed

How can you find out if your Web site is listed in the search engines? And if your site is listed, how can you find out which Web pages of your site are listed?We've assembled a list with step-by-step instructions for each search engine. Just replace "your-domain.com" with the domain name of your Web site.For best results, omit the "http://www." part, for example if your Web site is "http://www.Axandra.com", then use only "Axandra.com".

1. Go to " http://www.AltaVista.com/ ".
2. Enter "host:your-domain.com" and click the Find button.

* AllTheWeb

1. Go to " http://www.AllTheWeb.com/ ".
2. Enter "url.host:your-domain.com" and click the Search button.

2. Enter your domain name (without the "http://www." part) in the search box and enter it again in the "Domain:" box. Then click the Search button.

* Yahoo

1. Go to " http://search.yahoo.com/search/options ".
2. Enter your domain name in the "include all of y ur words" box, select the "Yahoo! Directory listings" option and click the Search button.

Some of the search engines above will "cluster" their search results, this means that they won't list all Web pages that they have indexed.

Ask Jeeves, Teoma, WiseNut and other search engines and directories are missing because they don't have commands to show which Web pages of your site are listed.

To find your Web pages in those search engines, you can try to search for your domain name.

Here's a general guide on how to effectively search the Internet.

3. Recommended resources

* SmartSoftware.org has reviewed ARELIS

"I have done lots of Web promotion, both professionally and for my own projects. The best tool I have seen is Arelis 3. This program [...] trawls the net searching for websites similar to yours (or your competitors). It then creates a list of these sites, ranking them according to how similar they are, and let you create themed link-lists of the sites you think suitable, in the categories you choose.

You upload this link-list to your webserver, and give a link to it from your site. Then, Arelis helps you write a mail to the site owners on your list, where you tell them you have linked to them and ask for a link back.

Your traffic will soar! And, your visitors will enjoy the excellent resource you have given them. So what are you waiting for?"
